On Monday evening April 17th, Brandeis Hebrew Academy welcomed guests from the 5 Towns community to commemorate the 6 million Jewish lives lost in the Holocaust at the school’s annual Yom HaShoah Presentation. The ceremony, led by our 8th grade students, featured a special “Zikaron BaSalon” Q&A session (similar to a living room chat) with Brandeis grandparent Professor Asher Matathias. Born in Greece in 1943, Professor Matathias and his parents survived the Holocaust by hiding in a cave, where he was born. To this day, Matathias continues to be an advocate for the Greek Jewry, while combatting the prolonged anti-Semitism of Greek society.
